Leadership Positions Available at Five Medical Universities
The Government of Punjab is seeking highly experienced medical education professionals to serve as Vice Chancellors at the following universities:
- King Edward Medical University, Lahore
- Fatima Jinnah Medical University, Lahore
- University of Health Sciences, Lahore
- Faisalabad Medical University, Faisalabad
- Rawalpindi Medical University, Rawalpindi

The Ideal Candidate Profile
These appointments are intended for distinguished medical professionals with strong academic, research, and administrative credentials.
Applicants must satisfy the eligibility criteria prescribed under The Public Sector Medical Universities (Amendment) Act, 2026.
A suitable candidate should possess:
- MBBS (minimum Second Division) recognized by PMDC.
Along with one of the following:
- FCPS
- MD
- MS
- Equivalent Clinical Qualification
- PhD in Basic Medical Sciences
The qualification must be obtained from an institution recognized by the Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PMDC).
Academic & Professional Experience Required
Candidates should have an established academic career in medical education.
The minimum requirements include:
- At least 10 years of service as Professor in a PMDC-recognized medical university or institution.
- Minimum 20 research publications in indexed medical journals recognized by HEC or PMDC.
- Strong academic leadership and administrative experience.
Applicants should also note that the maximum age limit is 70 years on the closing date of applications.
Key Conditions of Appointment
The selected Vice Chancellors will be appointed under the following conditions:
- Appointment will be for four years.
- The tenure is non-extendable.
- The Vice Chancellor will serve during the pleasure of the Chancellor.
- Holding any paid or unpaid administrative, academic, honorary, or professional office outside the university will not be permitted.
- Private medical practice inside or outside the university premises will not be allowed.
- Academic teaching and clinical responsibilities may only be undertaken for official university purposes.
